Description

Our Marsha basket is a woven fern and PVC basket in the shape of a chicken, with a raised head at one end, a spiky comb, a pointed beak and a small round eye, and a woven wing folded along its side. Behind the head sits an open oval body, 38cm long, 27cm wide and 18cm tall, roomy enough for folded tea towels or a small pile of post without taking over a worktop. The brown weave runs all the way round, broken by a contrasting weave across the breast and the front of the wing. At 0.13KG it weighs next to nothing, so it lifts from shelf to table with one hand.

The kitchen is where it looks most at home: on a dresser shelf, a deep windowsill or the end of a worktop, holding tea towels, napkins, cloths or the odds and ends that gather by the back door. It is listed as not food safe, so we keep it for things rather than anything you eat. Away from the kitchen it suits a hallway console for gloves, keys and letters, a sideboard as a cheerful decorative piece, or a craft shelf with balls of wool and knitting needles tucked inside.
