Description

A small stoneware jug, 9.5cm tall and 7cm across the body, holding 290ml. The body tapers gently from the base up towards the neck, with a broad pulled lip at one side and a high looped handle at the other. The lower third is closely fluted, narrow vertical ribs pressed into the clay, and the rest is left plain. A reactive glaze runs over it in a variegated cream, breaking to rust brown along the rim, the lip and the outer edge of the handle, with a pale grey halo just inside the break.

At 290ml this is the jug for milk at breakfast, cream with a pudding or a sauce carried to the table, rather than one for water or for flowers. At 9.5cm tall it takes up little room on a tray or a set table, and the high handle keeps a hand clear of the body.

The jug is stoneware under a reactive glaze, which changes in the heat of the kiln. How it will come out cannot be predicted, so the depth of the cream, the length of the streaks and the run of rust at the rim differ on every jug and no two are the same. The Malia is also made as a large jug, and the range runs on through plates, bowls, mugs, a teapot and a cup and saucer.

Frequently Asked

How much does it hold?

290ml.

What is it made from?

Stoneware, under a reactive glaze.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Yes, and it is food safe.

Will every jug look the same?

Not exactly. The glaze reacts in the kiln and the result cannot be predicted, so the cream, the streaking and the rust at the rim fall differently on every jug.

Is there a bigger one?

Yes. The Malia jug is also made in a large size.

How do I look after it?

Wash it after every use so nothing is left to stain the glaze, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it carefully, since stoneware chips.
