Description

The LYYT 12V LED strip light kit includes a 5m reel of yellow LED tape with 60 SMD2835 LEDs per metre, a 12V 2A UK mains adaptor, and DC connectors for installation. The tape carries an IP65 rating with a clear silicone coating that protects the LEDs and circuit board from moisture and dust, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, under-cabinet lighting, and vehicle interiors where low-voltage operation is required.

The tape is cuttable at marked 5cm intervals along its length, allowing it to be trimmed to fit exact cabinet runs, shelving, kickboards, or accent lighting positions. Each section carries a self-adhesive backing that peels away to expose the adhesive, which bonds to clean, dry surfaces including painted wood, metal, glass, and plastic. The 12V DC operation means the tape runs cooler than mains-voltage LED strips and can be handled safely during installation without isolating mains circuits.

The yellow LED output provides accent lighting rather than task illumination, with each LED producing approximately 11 lumens at a 130-150° beam angle. The tape consumes 4.08W per metre, giving a total draw of approximately 20W for the full 5m reel. The SMD2835 LED spacing of 16mm along the tape creates a continuous line of light when viewed from a short distance, rather than individual visible points.

The kit arrives with everything needed for a basic installation: the 5m reel on a spool, the 12V UK plug-top power supply with 1.2m mains cable and 1.2m low-voltage cable, and DC connectors for joining the tape to the power supply. The tape cross-section of 8.15 x 2.76mm fits into shallow channels and tight spaces where thicker LED strips would not.

Can the tape be cut to a custom length?

Yes. The tape carries cut marks every 5cm along its length. Cut only at the marked points to avoid damaging the circuit. Each cut section can be rejoined using additional DC connectors or soldered connections.

Is the IP65 rating suitable for outdoor use?

IP65 protects against moisture and dust but is not fully waterproof or submersible. The tape is suitable for indoor humid environments (kitchens, bathrooms) and sheltered outdoor locations where it will not be directly exposed to rain or standing water.

Does the kit include dimming capability?

No. The kit includes a fixed-output 12V power supply. To add dimming, you would need to install a compatible 12V LED dimmer between the power supply and the tape (sold separately).

What surfaces does the self-adhesive backing stick to?

The adhesive bonds to clean, dry, smooth surfaces including painted wood, metal, glass, and hard plastics. It does not adhere well to textured, dusty, or oily surfaces. Wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol before applying the tape for best adhesion.
