Description

The LYYT 12V LED strip light kit is a complete 5m installation package containing a flexible LED tape reel, a UK-compatible 12Vdc 2000mA power adaptor, and connector leads for joining the strip to the power supply. The tape uses 60 SMD2835 LEDs per metre running at 6000K cool white, producing a crisp daylight-toned light suited to task lighting, under-cabinet illumination and workspaces. The strip is cuttable at 5cm intervals, allowing precise length adjustment to fit cabinets, shelves or alcoves.

Designed for kitchens, bathrooms, workshops, under-cabinet lighting and display shelving, the tape has an IP65 silicone coating that resists water splashes and dust, making it suitable for humid environments and sheltered outdoor installations. The self-adhesive backing fixes the strip to clean, smooth surfaces including painted wood, MDF, aluminium and glass. The 12Vdc low-voltage operation reduces risk compared to mains-voltage alternatives and allows safe handling during installation.

Each metre of tape consumes 4.08W and delivers approximately 660 lumens (60 LEDs × 11lm per LED). The 5m reel therefore produces 3,300 lumens total when powered end-to-end, equivalent to approximately three 60W incandescent bulbs but drawing only 20.4W from the mains. The SMD2835 LEDs are rated to 25,000 hours, equating to roughly 8-10 years of typical domestic use before noticeable brightness degradation. The tape measures 8.15mm wide and 2.76mm thick including the silicone coating, fitting into narrow channels and recessed profiles.

The kit includes a UK 3-pin plug, 1.2m cable to the power adaptor, the adaptor unit itself, a further 1.2m cable to the DC connector, and the DC connector that clips onto the copper contact pads at the start of the LED strip. No soldering or specialist electrical knowledge is required. The strip connects via low-voltage push-fit terminals.

Can the strip be cut to a custom length?

Yes. The tape can be cut every 5cm (50mm) at marked cutting points. Each cutting point sits between sets of LEDs and has copper contact pads on both sides, allowing you to reconnect cut sections using additional connectors (sold separately) or to discard the excess length.

Is this suitable for bathrooms?

The IP65 silicone coating resists water splashes and steam, making the strip suitable for bathrooms when mounted outside shower enclosures and away from direct water jets. It should not be submerged or installed inside a shower cubicle. The power adaptor must be positioned outside bathroom zones or in a zone-compliant location.

What's in the box?

The kit includes the 5m LED tape reel on a spool, a UK 3-pin plug with 1.2m cable, a 12Vdc power adaptor, a 1.2m cable from adaptor to DC connector, and a DC connector that clips onto the strip's copper contact pads. You do not need to purchase additional components for a basic single-strip installation.

Can multiple strips be joined end-to-end?

The included power adaptor supplies 2000mA at 12Vdc, which is sufficient for the full 5m length (5m × 340mA/m = 1,700mA). Adding additional strips requires calculating total current draw and may require a higher-capacity power supply. Joining strips also requires additional connectors.
