Description
The LYYT 12V LED strip delivers 10m of cool white 6000K LED tape across two 5m reels, supplied with a waterproof 12V power supply rated IP67, five DC screw terminal plugs and five DC screw terminal sockets. The tape itself carries an IP65 rating, protecting the LEDs and circuitry from dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, understairs cupboards and other areas with occasional moisture exposure.
Designed for task lighting, accent lighting and general illumination in residential, retail and hospitality installations, the 6000K colour temperature produces a crisp, neutral white light comparable to daylight that suits workshop benches, display shelving, under-cabinet lighting and mirror surrounds. The self-adhesive backing on each reel allows the tape to be stuck directly onto clean, flat surfaces or fitted inside aluminium LED tape profiles for a finished look. The 12V low-voltage system is safer to install than mains-voltage alternatives and can be extended or split using the included DC connectors.
For runs longer than 5m, the 12V supply should be connected to both ends of the tape to prevent voltage drop and maintain consistent brightness along the full length. The DC connectors are rated to a maximum of 5A current, so installations drawing higher loads will require additional power injection points or a higher-rated connector system. The power supply requires a UK BS1363 plug top for connection to mains (plug top not included). The tape, power supply and connectors are packed separately within the same box.
Frequently Asked
Is this tape dimmable?
Dimmer compatibility depends on the 12V power supply and whether a compatible 12V LED dimmer is added inline. The included power supply does not have dimming capability built in. Contact us for advice on pairing with a suitable dimmer if needed.
Can this be used outdoors?
The tape is rated IP65, which protects against dust and low-pressure water jets but is not fully waterproof. For permanent outdoor installation the tape should be fitted inside a sealed IP67 or IP68-rated aluminium channel. The power supply is IP67 and can be mounted outdoors in a protected location away from direct rain.
How is the tape cut and joined?
LED tape can usually be cut at marked intervals (typically every 50mm or 100mm depending on LED density) along the reel. The included DC screw terminal connectors allow sections to be joined or extended without soldering. For permanent joins, soldering to the copper pads on the tape gives a more reliable connection than screw terminals alone.
What surfaces can the tape stick to?
The self-adhesive backing bonds to clean, dry, non-porous surfaces such as painted metal, sealed wood, glass and most plastics. Rough, dusty or textured surfaces will reduce adhesion. For best results, clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol before application and press the tape firmly along its length to ensure full contact.
