Description

The LYYT 12V red LED strip light is a 5m reel of flexible SMD3528 LED tape with 60 LEDs per metre, supplied as a complete kit with a 12Vdc 2A power supply, DC connector and UK plug. The tape is cuttable at 5cm intervals along marked copper contact points, allowing it to be shortened or divided to fit under-cabinet runs, shelf edges, cove lighting and display cases. An adhesive backing on the tape allows it to be stuck directly to clean, dry surfaces without brackets or clips.

The IP65 silicone coating provides protection against dust and water splashes, making the strip suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, home bars and sheltered outdoor installations where the tape is mounted under eaves or within covered patios. The low 12Vdc operating voltage reduces shock risk compared to mains-voltage tape, and the supplied power adaptor converts UK 230V mains to the required 12V output. The total power draw for the full 5m reel is approximately 20W, or 4.08W per metre.

Each SMD3528 LED emits 6 lumens in red, giving a combined output of approximately 1,800 lumens across the full 5m reel. The 130-150° beam angle from surface-mounted LEDs creates a wide wash of red light rather than a focused beam, making the strip effective for ambient accent lighting, architectural highlighting and decorative installations. The tape weighs 173g for the full 5m reel and measures 8.15mm wide by 2.76mm thick, allowing it to fit into narrow channels and behind trim.

Can the strip be cut to a shorter length?

Yes. The tape is cuttable every 5cm along marked copper contact points. Cut only at these marked points to ensure the remaining sections continue to function. Each cut segment will need its own 12V power connection to operate.

Is the strip dimmable?

Not with the supplied power adaptor. Dimming requires a compatible 12V LED dimmer controller installed between the power supply and the tape. These are sold separately and must be rated for the total wattage of the connected strip length.

Can it be used outdoors?

The IP65 rating protects against dust and water splashes but not full submersion or prolonged exposure to rain. Use outdoors only in sheltered locations such as under eaves, within covered patios, or inside weatherproof channels. The power supply is not rated for outdoor use and must remain indoors.

What's included in the kit?

The kit includes a 5m reel of red LED tape, a 12Vdc 2A power adaptor, a DC barrel connector, and a UK 3-pin plug. The lead from the UK plug to the adaptor is 1.2m, and the lead from the adaptor to the DC connector is 1.2m.
