Description

The LumiLife LED emergency exit sign is a wall or ceiling-mounted emergency lighting unit delivering 25 lumens in both mains and emergency modes with a 6500K daylight white LED. The fitting can be configured as maintained (constantly illuminated) or non-maintained (illuminated only on mains failure) depending on installation requirements, making it suitable for corridors, stairwells, offices and public buildings where Building Regulations Part B or BS 5266 compliance is required.

The white thermoplastic housing measures approximately 340mm wide by 210mm high and sits 40mm proud of the wall or ceiling once fitted. The green exit pictogram panel is backlit by the internal LED array, with directional arrow legends supplied for left, right and up configurations. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor environments such as office zones, retail areas and educational buildings. A test button and charge indicator on the right side of the housing allow routine testing without removing the cover.

The unit operates on 220-240V AC mains with a 2.5W power draw when in maintained mode. In non-maintained mode the fitting draws minimal standby power to charge the internal battery, which provides emergency illumination for a minimum duration (typically 3 hours, see specification sheet) on mains failure. The low 2.5W consumption allows multiple units to be run on a single lighting circuit without overloading standard protective devices.

Frequently Asked

What's the difference between maintained and non-maintained mode?

Maintained mode keeps the sign illuminated continuously, powered by the mains supply. Non-maintained mode only illuminates the sign when mains power fails, drawing from the internal battery. Most UK installations in public areas require maintained mode; non-maintained is typically used in areas already lit by other emergency lighting or where the sign would otherwise cause light pollution.

How long does the emergency battery last on mains failure?

Emergency duration is specified in the product datasheet (see Downloads tab). Most LumiLife emergency exit signs provide a minimum 3-hour emergency duration, meeting the standard requirement for non-residential buildings under BS 5266-1.

How is it tested and maintained?

The test button on the right side of the housing simulates a mains failure, allowing monthly function tests without switching off the circuit. The charge indicator confirms the battery is charging correctly. Annual duration tests (running until the battery depletes) are required under BS 5266 and should be logged as part of the building's fire safety records.

Can it be used in bathrooms or outdoor covered areas?

No. The IP20 rating means the unit is not protected against water ingress and must only be installed in dry indoor environments. For bathrooms, plant rooms or outdoor canopies, an IP65-rated emergency exit sign is required.
