Description

This is the part that sits between the mains supply and a 12V lighting run, taking the incoming supply and holding the output steady at 12V so LED strip and low voltage fittings run as intended. It has 150W of load to give, which leaves room for a circuit to grow rather than being replaced. The case is a long, ridged metal extrusion with cooling fins down both faces, and the cable enters and leaves as flying leads: one lead for the incoming supply at one end, one low voltage lead at the other, each ready to terminate into a junction box.

Sealed to IP65, it is rated against dust and against water jets, so it can go where an unsealed driver cannot: a garden bed, a soffit, a decking channel or an outbuilding. It is rated for bathroom zones 1, 2 and 3, though not zone 0, which covers most positions in a domestic bathroom other than inside the bath or shower itself. Indoors it sits as happily above a kitchen wall unit, behind a coving detail or inside a stud void, and the finned case is there to shed the heat any driver of this size produces.

Load is the number to plan around. Add up the wattage of everything on the run, whether that is the strip's watts per metre or a fitting's own rating, and keep the total inside 150W, leaving a margin rather than working a driver to its limit. It is not dimmable, and the manufacturer says so plainly, so plan on a fixed output and choose a dimmable driver instead if the lighting needs to vary. It measures 239mm long, 67mm deep and 49mm tall, and comes as a single unit with a minimum order of one.

How much LED strip will 150W drive?

Divide 150 by the strip's watts per metre. A 10W per metre tape gives 15 metres at the absolute limit, so plan a little under that figure.

Can I dim the lights running from it?

Not with this unit. The manufacturer states it is not dimmable, so choose a dimmable driver from the outset if the output needs to vary.

Can it be used outdoors or in a bathroom?

Yes. IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets, and it is rated for bathroom zones 1, 2 and 3, but never zone 0.

Does it give out any light itself?

No, it is a power supply only. It converts the mains supply to a steady 12V for the lamps or strip you connect to it.

Will it fit in a shallow void?

It is 49mm tall, 67mm deep and 239mm long, so measure the void and leave air around the finned case so heat can escape.
