Description

This wooden heart plaque carries the words "Lovely Gran" across the top in flowing lettering, with "Like a flower, you make life more beautiful" set beside a spray of watercolour blooms. The face is white, printed with soft pink, peach and blue roses among green leaves and tiny sprigs of blue berries, while a little bumblebee drifts towards the verse. A brown rim outlines the heart, and the sides show the pale tone of the wood beneath. It measures 17.5cm by 16cm across the face and 3cm deep, a size that sits comfortably on a mantelpiece or shelf without crowding the frames and ornaments already there.

As a mantel plaque it stands on its own on any flat surface, so there is no fixing to worry about and no marks on the wall. Set it on the mantelpiece, a windowsill, a bookcase or a bedside table, wherever your gran will see it each morning. We think it makes a thoughtful Mother's Day gift for a grandmother, and a lovely birthday present too, whether it is the main gift or a little extra alongside a card. It suits a gran who loves her garden and likes to have flowers about the house all year round.

The plaque is made of wood, with the floral design and lettering on its white face, a brown edge framing the front and plain wood showing on the sides. At 3cm deep it has a pleasingly solid, chunky feel in the hand and enough body to stand upright on its base. Looking after it is simple: dust it now and then with a soft dry cloth, and keep it away from damp and steamy spots so the wood stays at its best. For gifting, give it with a bunch of her favourite flowers, or stand it beside a family photo frame so the kind words sit next to the faces she loves most.
