Description

The Liova is a kids stool made from MDF and painted blue, with a striped shelf running between its two side panels. It measures 39cm long, 28cm wide and 30cm tall, a low seat made for children rather than grown-ups. The side panels widen gently towards the floor, and an arched cut-out at the foot of each one leaves the stool standing on four small feet. Underneath the flat top, the shelf is painted in contrasting stripes, and its ends push right through the side panels as short tabs, a detail that gives the whole piece plenty of character.

In a bedroom or playroom it gives a child a seat of their own at their own height, and the shelf underneath is the natural home for a stack of picture books or a few soft toys. In a hallway it makes a low perch for pulling on wellies before a walk, with room on the shelf for small shoes or a hat. Because the top is flat and rectangular, it also works as a little bedside surface in a nursery, holding a night-time book within easy reach. At 4.1KG it is light enough for a grown-up to carry from room to room as the day moves on.

The stool is made from MDF, a dense, smooth board that takes paint evenly, and its painted finish gives an even colour across the top and sides. It needs putting together, and the maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download, so you can read through the steps ahead of time. For styling, it sits happily against pale walls and wooden floors, where the blue frame and the striped shelf both stand out; set it at the end of a bed, beside a toy box or by the front door with a row of small boots lined up next to it.
