Description

A tapered tube with a drawn tip, finished with a smoked tint that takes the edge off a bare lamp. It draws 6.5W and gives 710 lumens, so it stands in for something far thirstier in an open fitting where the bulb itself is part of the look. The colour is 4000K cool white, a crisp neutral light rather than a warm yellow, and it spreads all round rather than pushing in one direction. It dims too, provided the circuit already has a dimmer suited to LED.

We would put this in pendants, cage fittings and multi-lamp clusters where the bulb is on full view and clear glass would be uncomfortable to look at directly. The cool white suits kitchens, home offices, utility rooms and a workshop corner, anywhere you want light that reads clean against white paint and steel rather than cosy. It is one we reach for when a customer likes the rustic tube shape but wants the light calmed down a little, and it is equally at home in a wall light with an upward facing open shade.

The smoked finish runs evenly over the envelope, and the E27 cap screws into any standard holder. To clean it, switch off at the wall, let it cool completely, then go over it with a dry microfibre cloth; solvents and scouring creams will mar the tint, so keep them well away. It carries a three year warranty. Worth knowing before you buy: switched off, it sits dark and quiet in the fitting, which pairs well with brass, black or aged metalwork and less well with pale ceramic. Will it work with my existing dimmer?

It is dimmable, but only on a dimmer designed for LED loads. No dimmer is supplied with the bulb, and an older resistive dimmer intended for filament lamps may cause flicker or limit the dimming range.
