Description

This is a stoneware egg cup in brown, made from 100% stoneware and finished in a solid coloured glaze. It is a small, footed piece, 4.5cm across and 6cm tall, with a capacity of 28ml, and it weighs just 0.08KG. Deep vertical ribs run from the rim down to a narrow waist, and from there the cup flares into a short, rounded foot that keeps it steady on a plate or tray. The glaze pools in the grooves, so the grooves read darker than the raised ribs between them.

It is made for the breakfast table. A boiled egg sits upright in the cup, ready for a spoon and a few soldiers of toast. At 4.5cm across it takes up very little room, so one fits beside a side plate at every place setting, on a breakfast tray taken up for a weekend lie-in, or along a brunch table laid for family and friends. Because it is approved for food, it can also hold a single portion of salt, a pat of butter or a spoonful of jam when there are no eggs on the menu.
