Large Victorian Globe Hanging Lantern on a Chain - Black

This is the Heritage globe hanging lantern, hung from a chain instead of set on a post. The cast iron globe sits in its banded cage below a cast ceiling rose, on a 300mm chain, which gives an overall drop of 650mm. Because the glazing is a sphere rather than four flat panes, the light goes out evenly in every direction, which is what you want above a door where people arrive from more than one side. The cast detail on the cage and the rose is the same as the rest of the Heritage range, so it will sit correctly beside a Heritage post or pillar light.

It belongs under a porch roof, in a covered entrance, under a carriage arch or in an open-sided outbuilding. The chain length is fixed at 300mm rather than adjustable, so measure your soffit height before ordering: 650mm of drop under a low porch ceiling will be in the way. It weighs 18.00KG, which is a real ceiling fixing rather than a plasterboard anchor, and the fixing point needs to be into timber or masonry. Harte rate it IP44, which covers splashing from any direction, so a covered but open-sided position is fine.

Glazing is clear polycarbonate and the lamp is an E27 screw fitting supplied without a bulb, so you choose the output and the colour rather than accepting a sealed unit. A 7W LED at 2700K is the usual choice for an entrance. Harte cast, spray and glaze each light to order in County Wexford, so allow two to five weeks, and any RAL colour can go on in place of gloss black if you say so when ordering. Wiring a ceiling fitting outdoors needs a qualified electrician.

How far does it hang down?

650mm in total, on a fixed 300mm chain. Measure the height of your porch ceiling before ordering, because the drop is not adjustable.

Can the chain be shortened or lengthened?

The chain is supplied at 300mm. Ask us before ordering if you need a different drop, as it is made to order.

What does it weigh and what fixing does it need?

18.00KG, so the fixing needs to go into structural timber or masonry rather than into plasterboard.

Can it hang in an open position with no roof above it?

It is rated IP44, which covers splashing from any direction, so a covered or partly covered position is right. For a fully exposed position look at the IP65 fittings in the range.

What bulb does it take?

An E27 screw lamp, not supplied. A 7W LED at 2700K suits most entrances. The maximum for the fitting is 100W in total.

Does it match the Heritage posts and pillar lights?

Yes. It uses the same cast iron globe and the same cage and cast detail as the rest of the Heritage range, so a porch light and a pillar light will read as a set.
