Description

This is the Traditional lantern cut in half and set flat against the wall. The half lantern shape is what makes this wall light useful: it takes the same cast detail and the same hand-cut glass as the full lantern but projects only 280mm, so it clears a door swing, a narrow passage or a low soffit where an arm would be in the way. At 560mm tall it is the larger of the two Traditional half lanterns, and it throws light forward and down across a doorway rather than out into the garden.

People usually buy two, one either side of an entrance, because a pair kills the shadow that a single light leaves on the steps. It also works on a garage, an outbuilding, a stairwell or the wall of a passage between houses. Harte cast it in iron with galvanised steel, hand spray it in gloss black enamel and rate it IP44, which covers splashing from any direction. It weighs 11.90KG, light enough for an ordinary masonry fixing, and it is straightforward to put up because the back plate sits flat.

The lamp is an E27 screw fitting, supplied empty, so you choose the output and the colour rather than living with a sealed unit. Harte suggest a 7W LED at 2700K for a warm entrance light. Everything is made to order in County Wexford, so allow two to five weeks, and any RAL colour can be sprayed instead of black if you say so when ordering. Outdoor wiring needs a qualified electrician and a protected circuit.
