Knightsbridge T02 20-60W 12V Dimmable Transformer for ELV Lighting

The Knightsbridge T02 is a 20-60W 12V dimmable transformer designed for extra-low voltage (ELV) halogen lighting systems. It converts 230V mains to 12V AC output and incorporates thermal cut-out, overload protection and short circuit protection to prevent damage from overcurrent or overheating. The unit functions as a safety isolating transformer with Class II double insulation, removing the need for an earth connection.

Designed for residential and commercial installations where recessed halogen downlights or low-voltage display lighting require protected power delivery, the T02 fits inside ceiling voids, under-cabinet spaces and lighting plenums. The 120mm length and 30mm width allow it to be tucked into joists or fitted within shallow ceiling depths. The 0.2m output cable terminates in push-fit connectors for quick connection to lamp holders or distribution blocks.

The polycarbonate housing carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for dry indoor locations but not bathrooms or outdoor use. The transformer is dimmable when paired with trailing-edge or leading-edge dimmers rated for inductive loads — confirm compatibility with your specific dimmer model before installation. The thermal cut-out activates if internal temperature exceeds safe limits, shutting down output until the unit cools, then auto-resetting.

At minimum load the transformer draws 20W; at maximum it handles 60W total across all connected lamps. For a typical 20W halogen downlight that translates to 1-3 lamps per transformer. Running below the 20W minimum can cause flickering or hum; exceeding 60W triggers overload protection and shuts the unit down.

How many 12V halogen lamps can this transformer power?

The T02 handles 20-60W total load. For typical 20W MR16 halogen lamps that means 1-3 lamps per transformer. Running below 20W can cause flickering; exceeding 60W triggers overload protection and shuts the transformer down.

Is it compatible with LED lamps?

This is an AC transformer designed for halogen lamps. Some 12V AC-compatible LED lamps will work, but many LED retrofit lamps require DC transformers or dedicated LED drivers. Check the lamp specification before pairing with LEDs.

Can it be used with a dimmer?

Yes, the T02 is dimmable when paired with trailing-edge or leading-edge dimmers rated for inductive/transformer loads. Standard resistive dimmers may not work correctly. Confirm dimmer compatibility with your electrician before installation.

What does the thermal cut-out do?

If the internal temperature exceeds safe limits due to overload, poor ventilation or ambient heat, the thermal cut-out shuts down the transformer output. Once the unit cools the cut-out resets automatically and output resumes.
