Description

The Knightsbridge ENM5C is a 5W LED emergency downlight with a built-in lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery that provides 3 hours of emergency illumination at 460 lumens when mains power fails. The fitting operates in non-maintained mode only, meaning the LED illuminates solely during power cuts and remains off during normal mains operation. The 5500K daylight colour temperature delivers high-contrast visibility for corridors, fire exits and emergency escape routes.

Designed for commercial and residential projects requiring BS 5266 compliance, the downlight fits a 65mm ceiling cut-out and requires a minimum 110mm void depth above the ceiling to accommodate the recessed body and battery pack. The pre-wired battery pack mounts separately in the void, simplifying installation and future battery replacement without removing the entire fitting. A corridor lens accessory ships in the box, providing directional light distribution for long narrow spaces where standard wide-beam downlights would waste output onto walls.

The aluminium and polycarbonate construction carries an IP20 rating, making it suitable for internal dry locations but not for bathrooms, kitchens or outdoor use. The white finish integrates into white ceilings without drawing attention during daylight hours. The Class II double-insulated design eliminates the need for an earth connection, reducing installation complexity. The LiFePO4 battery chemistry offers longer cycle life and better thermal stability than older NiCd or NiMH emergency lighting batteries.

Frequently Asked

What does non-maintained mean?

Non-maintained emergency lights illuminate only when mains power fails. During normal operation the LED stays off. This differs from maintained emergency lights which can operate as standard lighting and switch to battery during power cuts. Non-maintained fittings are typically used in commercial corridors, stairwells and fire exits where separate task lighting exists.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

A minimum 110mm void depth above the ceiling is required to house the 60mm recessed body plus the separate battery pack. Shallower voids will not accommodate the fitting and battery assembly.

How long does the battery last before replacement?

LiFePO4 batteries in emergency lighting typically provide 4-5 years of service life under normal conditions with regular charge-discharge cycles. The battery is pre-wired and can be replaced without removing the downlight from the ceiling. The 3-year warranty excludes the battery.

What is the corridor lens for?

The corridor lens narrows the beam distribution to direct light along the length of a corridor rather than spreading it wide. This concentrates the 460 lumens where they are needed in narrow hallways and reduces wasted light spill onto walls.
