Description

The Knightsbridge BATS5EMH is a 1525mm (5ft) LED emergency batten delivering 5925lm output from a 55W integrated LED module running at 4000K cool white. The emergency function operates in maintained, non-maintained or switched modes, providing 230lm output for up to three hours during mains failure. The pressed steel housing and opal polycarbonate diffuser spread light evenly across a 135° beam angle.

Designed as a direct replacement for traditional 5ft fluorescent battens in commercial, industrial and public-access environments, the fitting mounts to standard 600mm ceiling joist centres or BESA boxes via rear and end conduit fixings. The hinged gear tray and push-fit loop-in/loop-out connectors allow first-fix wiring before the diffuser is clipped into place, reducing installation time compared to screw-terminal battens that require the housing to be fully assembled during wiring.

The 147.49lm/W efficacy gives approximately 40% energy savings over equivalent fluorescent battens while the 50,000-hour L70B50 rating reduces maintenance frequency. The Class I construction requires an earth connection and the IP20 rating suits dry indoor applications including offices, warehouses, corridors, plant rooms and back-of-house commercial spaces. The constant-current LED driver is non-dimmable and the emergency battery carries a separate warranty from the main LED module.

What are the emergency mode options?

The batten supports maintained (emergency light stays on permanently), non-maintained (emergency light activates only during mains failure) and switched modes (emergency function can be isolated via a separate switch). The emergency output is 230lm for up to three hours on battery backup.

What mounting centres does it use?

The batten is compatible with standard 600mm ceiling joist centres and BESA boxes. Rear and end conduit fixings allow flexible mounting orientations depending on the ceiling structure and cable entry point.

Is the LED replaceable?

No. The LED module is integrated into the housing and rated for 50,000 hours (L70B50), which equates to approximately 17 years at 8 hours per day use. At end of life the entire fitting is replaced rather than individual components.

Can it be used in damp or wet environments?

No. The IP20 rating means the batten is suitable for dry indoor locations only. For damp environments such as commercial kitchens, wash areas or covered outdoor spaces, an IP65-rated batten would be required.
