Description

The Kimitsu Vase is an oval vase in a gold finish, made from aluminium and shaped as an openwork lattice that looks like branching coral. Irregular openings run right through the body, letting light and the colour of the wall behind show between the strands, which gives it a lightness no solid vase has. It tapers towards a slim opening at the top and stands on a neat round foot. It is 39.5cm high, 23.5cm long and 8cm wide, and weighs 1.55KG.

Because it is only 8cm wide, it fits a narrow mantelpiece, a slim console table or a bookshelf where a rounder vase would crowd the space. In a hallway or on a sideboard, the gold catches lamplight and daylight alike, and it sits well against dark painted walls, warm wood and natural linen. We think it suits anyone who wants the look of a sculpture with the use of a vase: fill it with dried pampas grass, dried eucalyptus or artificial stems, or leave it empty and let the coral pattern do the work. At 1.55KG it is easy to lift and move between rooms as the seasons change.

The colour is a warm brass tone with a soft metallic sheen. It is intended for artificial and dried flowers only. With openings right through the body it is not made to hold water, so keep fresh flowers and water well away from it and choose dried or faux stems instead. For the most open look, arrange the stems loosely so the pattern stays visible from every side.
