Round, compact and quietly practical, this anthracite wall light measures 70mm across and stands proud of the wall by only 95mm, so it reads as a small point of light rather than a fitting you notice first. It takes a single GU10 lamp, which means the beam and the warmth of the light are yours to choose. There is no dimming and no switch on the body, so it works from whatever wall switch controls the circuit. We reach for it outdoors where a full lantern would look heavy.

It suits the places where light needs to be present without dominating: beside a front or back door, along the passage down the side of a house, above a step, or spaced out across a courtyard or garden wall. The small footprint helps on narrow walls and around door frames, where a bigger fitting would crowd the space. It is equally at home on a covered balcony, a porch, or the wall of a garage or garden room, and it is a sensible choice for anyone who wants steady outdoor light without the security floodlight look.

The anthracite finish is a soft dark grey that settles well against brick, render and timber cladding, and it keeps company with dark window frames and gutters rather than fighting them. Keep it looking right by turning the power off and wiping the housing with a damp cloth, then drying it; brushing cobwebs and leaf litter from around the fitting stops marks setting into the finish over a wet winter. It carries a two year warranty. We stock the range in square as well as round, and in sand white, sand black and rust brown if anthracite is too dark for your walls. Lamps are not included.

Which lamp should I use in it?

One GU10 lamp, up to 10W. An LED reflector of the 50mm type is what we would fit, and you can pick the beam width and colour temperature to suit the spot. Lamps are bought separately.

Can it be put on a dimmer?

No, this one is not dimmable. It is designed to run from an ordinary on and off switch, so keep it off dimmed circuits.

How much space does it need on the wall?

Very little: 70mm wide, 80mm high, and it projects 95mm from the wall face. That makes it workable on narrow piers and beside door frames.

Is it all right on an exposed outside wall?

It is rated IP54, so it copes with dust and splashing water. On a very exposed elevation we would still favour a spot with some shelter, such as under an eave or a porch roof.

How do I keep the finish in good order?

Switch the power off first, then wipe the body with a damp cloth and dry it. Avoid scouring pads and solvent cleaners, which will dull the anthracite over time.

Is there a warranty?

Yes, it carries a two year warranty.
