Description
The Johari is a 70x160cm acrylic painting on stretched canvas, depicting a female figure in a traditional headdress and patterned garment against a textured black background. The monochromatic palette uses shades of grey and silver to render the figure's skin, the geometric weave of the dress, and the wrapped fabric of the headdress, while the dark background creates contrast and depth.
Designed as a vertical statement piece for tall, narrow walls, the Johari suits entrance halls, gallery walls above a console table, or alongside staircases where the 160cm height fills vertical space without overwhelming the width of the wall. The 70cm width makes it suitable for walls between doorways or in alcoves where a wider canvas would not fit. The textured brushwork on the background and the fine detail in the garment patterning give the painting visual interest at both close and distant viewing distances.
The canvas is stretched over a wooden frame with a 3.5cm depth, allowing the painting to be hung directly on the wall without needing an additional frame. The grayscale tones pair comfortably with neutral, minimalist and contemporary interiors, as well as warmer-toned spaces where the silver highlights in the dress and headdress pick up ambient light. At 2.48kg the canvas requires secure wall fixings appropriate to the weight and canvas depth.
The painting arrives ready to hang, with fixings pre-installed on the reverse of the wooden frame. The Johari is part of Schuller's decorative art collection and carries a focus on cultural portraiture rendered through simplified tonal ranges and geometric patterning.

Frequently Asked
Does the Johari come framed?
The canvas is stretched over a wooden frame with a 3.5cm depth, giving it a free-standing gallery-style edge that does not require an additional frame. It can be hung directly on the wall as supplied.
What wall fixings are needed?
At 2.48kg, the painting requires secure wall fixings rated for canvas weight. Use two D-rings or hanging wire on the reverse (pre-installed) with corresponding wall plugs and screws suitable for your wall type — plasterboard may need cavity fixings or positioning over a stud.
What ceiling height is needed?
The 160cm height works best in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.4m or above, allowing the top of the canvas to sit comfortably below the ceiling line. In lower-ceilinged rooms the painting can still work if positioned with the base closer to floor level rather than centred at eye height.
Can it be cleaned?
Dust the surface gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or feather duster. Do not use water, cleaning sprays or chemical products on acrylic canvas as these can damage the paint layer and cause colour shift or surface bloom.
