Description

Our Jili wall light is an iron reading lamp in black, with a domed shade held out from the wall on a jointed arm. It measures 53cm long, 15cm wide and 37cm tall, and the shade itself stands 16cm tall, so the light sits out over a pillow or the edge of a desk rather than flat against the plaster. The arm has a knob at the elbow and a second pivot where it meets the shade, so you can tip the light down onto a page or raise it when you want it out of the way. It weighs 0.8KG.

It earns its place on the wall beside a bed, where it leaves the bedside table free for books and a clock, and it works just as well over a reading chair or beside a desk in a study. Mounted at either side of a double bed, a pair gives each sleeper their own light to read by. It is rated IP20, so it belongs in dry rooms such as bedrooms, living rooms, studies and hallways. The 180cm black cable drops down the wall from the back plate, and the light has a switch.

The light is 100% iron in black, from the rectangular back plate with its four screw holes to the shade. It takes an E27 bulb, up to 5W LED, and the bulb is not included, so pick up a screw-fit LED bulb of 5W or less when you order. Care is simple: wipe it clean with a moist cloth. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. Black iron looks crisp against pale painted panelling or a wooden headboard, and the dome of the shade softens the straight lines of the arm.
