This is a single 9V alkaline cell from the JCB Ultra Alkaline range: the rectangular block with two snap terminals at one end that most people know as a PP3. Its formal code is 6LR61, and PP3, 6LR61 and plain 9V all name the same cell, so if your device or its manual quotes any one of those, this is the right size. The 6 at the front of 6LR61 tells you what is inside: six small alkaline cells wired in series within one shell, which is where the nominal nine volts comes from.

Nine volt cells do one job in most homes: they sit in the smoke alarm. They also turn up in heat and carbon monoxide alarms, multimeters and test meters, guitar pedals and active pickups, wireless microphones and beltpacks, radio remote controls, and older transistor radios.
