Description

The JCB Super 9V PP3 is a single alkaline battery delivering 9V output across the 6LR61 cell configuration. It uses alkaline chemistry to provide consistent power to medium and high-drain devices including smoke alarms, wireless microphones, guitar effects pedals, handheld radios and multimeters.

Designed for both intermittent and continuous-draw applications, the battery performs reliably in low-temperature environments down to -10°C, making it suitable for outdoor equipment and garage-mounted smoke detectors as well as indoor devices. The single-pack format provides a direct replacement when a 9V battery fails in critical equipment such as fire alarms or security sensors.

JCB rates this battery to deliver up to 30% longer runtime than standard zinc-carbon 9V cells, with shelf life extending to several years when stored at room temperature. The PP3 form factor and snap terminals match the standard 9V battery footprint used across most consumer electronics since the 1960s, ensuring compatibility with existing battery compartments and terminal clips.

Frequently Asked

What devices use a 9V PP3 battery?

Smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, wireless microphones, guitar effects pedals, handheld radios, multimeters and some older portable electronics. The PP3 form factor has been the standard 9V battery configuration since the 1960s and remains widely used in safety and audio equipment.

How long does a JCB Super 9V battery last?

Runtime depends on the device's current draw. In a typical smoke alarm drawing 10-30μA standby current, a 9V alkaline can last 12-18 months. In high-drain devices like active wireless microphones or effects pedals, expect several hours of continuous use.

Can this battery be recharged?

No. Alkaline batteries are single-use and should not be placed in a charger. Attempting to recharge an alkaline cell can cause leakage or rupture. For rechargeable 9V cells, look for NiMH or lithium-ion variants sold separately.

What is the shelf life?

Alkaline 9V batteries typically retain 80-90% of their capacity after 3-5 years when stored at room temperature in the original packaging. Store in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight for maximum shelf life.
