Description

The JCB AAA R03 zinc batteries deliver 1.5V power in a 4-pack designed for low-drain devices that run intermittently rather than continuously. These batteries use zinc carbon chemistry, which makes them cost-effective for devices that draw small amounts of current over long periods, such as TV remote controls, wall clocks, basic LED torches and traditional analogue toys.

Zinc batteries differ from alkaline in that they perform best in devices that switch on and off rather than running continuously for hours. They're not suitable for high-drain digital devices like cameras, motorised toys or gaming controllers, where alkaline or lithium chemistry would be needed. The 4-pack provides replacement batteries for multiple low-drain devices around the home or workplace without overstocking.

Each battery measures the standard AAA R03 size (10.5mm diameter, 44.5mm length) and fits any device marked for AAA or R03 cells. The blister pack is sealed and displays clearly which devices the zinc chemistry works well in and which it doesn't, preventing misuse in high-drain applications where the battery would deplete quickly.

Frequently Asked

What devices are zinc batteries best for?

Zinc batteries work well in low-drain devices that are used intermittently: TV and audio remote controls, wall clocks, basic torches, and simple non-motorised toys. They're not suitable for high-drain devices like digital cameras, motorised toys, gaming controllers or continuous-use devices.

How do zinc batteries differ from alkaline?

Zinc carbon batteries cost less but deliver lower capacity than alkaline. They're designed for devices that draw small amounts of current intermittently. Alkaline batteries are better for devices that run continuously or draw higher current, such as cameras, gaming controllers and motorised toys.

What is the shelf life?

Zinc batteries typically have a shelf life of 1-2 years when stored at room temperature. Check the date code on the packaging for the specific batch.

Can these be used in smoke alarms?

No. Smoke alarms require alkaline or lithium batteries with long shelf life and stable voltage over time. Zinc batteries are not recommended for safety-critical devices.
