The Jadida is a Moorish-style pendant light with a domed shade of pierced metalwork, set all over with beads of coloured glass in red, blue, green, amber and clear. The steel body carries an antique copper coloured finish with darker shading across the metal, and the shade ends in a deep cut lattice band around its lower edge. It stands 110cm tall overall and measures 33cm in diameter. It takes an E27 bulb of up to 60W, which is not included, and its IP20 rating settles where it lives: indoors, in a dry room.

Over a dining table it gives the room a focal point above the place where everyone gathers, and in a living room it brings warmth and colour to a corner beside a sideboard or a favourite chair. It suits anyone who likes pattern but wants to keep the walls and floor quiet: the dome carries all the detail, so plain surroundings let it do the work. Because there is no switch on the pendant itself, it runs from your existing wall switch, with no pull cord or inline switch on the cable. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; it is not suited to a bathroom or a garden.

Look closely and each glass bead sits in its own ring of the pierced metal, the black cable runs alongside the chain, and the ceiling rose carries the same antique copper coloured finish as the shade. Packed, the pendant weighs 1.28KG. As a wired mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. One practical note to close: the shade is open work, so the bulb shows partly through the cutouts, and it pays to choose a bulb you are happy to see.
