Description

Indra is a set of two woven baskets made from water hyacinth and seagrass, with metal also part of their make-up. Flat plaited bands alternate with narrower twisted ones all the way round, giving each basket a striped, deeply textured surface in a natural colour, and a twisted rope edge finishes the rim. The larger basket is 35cm long, 26cm wide and 25cm tall; the smaller is 31cm long, 23cm wide and 21cm tall. Both are oval, with hand-holds cut into the rim, so a full basket is easy to pick up and carry from room to room.

At these sizes they suit the everyday odds and ends that need a home rather than a cupboard. The larger one takes a folded throw, a pile of magazines or a knitting project beside the sofa, while the smaller one keeps chargers, hats and gloves or craft supplies together on a shelf or by the front door. In a bedroom they sit neatly on top of a wardrobe or under a console table, and in a child's room they gather small toys at floor level.
