Indigo Drop Large Jug - Cream & Indigo

A tall cylindrical jug, 21.5cm high and 8.5cm across, in cream glazed clay with a band of indigo drops painted by hand round the top. The drops sit point down in close rows, and the band carries over the rim and down inside the lip. The spout is pulled out of the wall rather than added to it, and the handle is a wide loop that stands well clear of the body.

It holds a litre, which makes it a jug for water at the table, for milk at breakfast, or for cut stems when it is not laid up. At 21.5cm high and only 8.5cm across it is tall for its width, so it takes up little room between plates, and the loop of the handle is deep enough for a whole hand. It goes in the dishwasher and it is food safe.

The jug is white clay under a glaze, and the pattern is put on by hand in a water based paint, so the drops sit at slightly different angles on every jug and the band never lands in quite the same place twice. The pieces are shaped and painted by hand, to a mix of old and current methods, some of them thousands of years old. Indigo Drop runs across a whole table: plates, bowls, mugs, a cup and saucer, teapots, a butter dish and a smaller jug.

Yes, and it is food safe.

Is the pattern painted by hand?

Yes, in a water based paint, so the drops fall a little differently on every jug.

Yes. Indigo Drop is made as a smaller jug as well as this one.

How should it be looked after?

Wash it after every use so it does not stain, using a mild detergent, and do not leave it to soak. Handle it with care to prevent chipping.
