Description
The Idun-E is a round recessed LED downlight in white. It has a plastic body and a flat white plastic diffuser that sits close to the ceiling. It measures 16.6cm across and stands just 3.1cm deep, so it suits ceilings where the void above is shallow. The light source is an integrated LED giving 1,360 lumens at 3000K, a warm white that feels relaxed and homely rather than stark. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, away from steam and splashing water.
Downlights like this work well in groups: a row along a hallway or landing ceiling gives even, general light with nothing hanging down into the room. The warm white tone also sits comfortably in living rooms, bedrooms and studies, where a cooler light can feel clinical. Because the diffuser is flat and opal, the LEDs read as one soft disc of light rather than a cluster of bright points, so it is gentler on the eye whenever you look at the ceiling. Spaced across a ceiling, a few of them give a room plenty of everyday brightness without a pendant in sight.
Spring clips hold the downlight against the ceiling, and it needs a cut-out of 15 to 16cm, so it is worth measuring any existing hole before you choose it. It runs on 220-240V mains and has no switch of its own, so it is switched at the wall like any ceiling light. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. The whole fitting weighs just 0.1KG. Its integrated LED is replaceable by a specialist, and it carries energy class E. When planning a ceiling, mark out where each light will sit first: a neat, even grid looks best and spreads the warm light across the whole room.

Frequently Asked
Can the Idun-E go in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means indoors and dry only, so we suggest it for hallways, landings, living rooms and bedrooms rather than anywhere near water.
What size hole does it need?
It needs a ceiling cut-out of 15 to 16cm. The downlight itself is 16.6cm across and 3.1cm deep, so it suits shallow ceiling voids.
How bright is each downlight?
Each one gives 1,360 lumens from its integrated LED, which is plenty for general lighting, and several spaced across a ceiling build an even spread of light.
What colour is the light?
It is warm white at 3000K, a soft, cosy tone that suits living rooms, bedrooms and hallways where you want the light to feel relaxed.
Can the LED be replaced?
Yes, the integrated LED is replaceable, but it is a job for a specialist rather than a simple bulb change you would do yourself.
Does it have its own switch?
No, it has no switch of its own. It is switched at the wall, just like a standard ceiling light, and runs on 220-240V mains.
