Description

The Idun-E is a round recessed LED downlight, with a slim black trim framing a frosted white diffuser. It measures 11.7cm across and just 3.1cm high, so it needs very little room in the void above the ceiling. The LED is integrated and gives 825 lumens of warm white light at 3000K, a soft, homely tone that flatters living spaces far more than a cool white. Its IP20 rating settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms.

We would put it in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, landings and studies, rather than a bathroom or anywhere outdoors. A few of them spaced across a ceiling give even, general light without a pendant hanging into the room, which is a real help where ceilings are low or a room is small. The black trim makes a crisp, graphic ring against a white ceiling, and it sits naturally beside black door furniture, dark window frames or an industrial-style scheme. It suits anyone wanting tidy, unobtrusive lighting that still looks deliberate.

Both the body and the diffuser are plastic, and the whole downlight weighs 0.05KG, with spring clips that grip the ceiling board to hold it in place. There is no switch on the light itself; it is switched at the wall, from your existing light switch. Because the LED is integrated, there is no bulb to buy or change, and there is no driver; should the LED ever need replacing, that is a job for a specialist. It runs on 220-240V, 50/60Hz mains and carries energy class E. As a wired-in mains light, it is installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a download. Before you order, measure the ceiling hole: it needs a cut-out between 10 and 11cm wide.
