Description

Round, plain and quietly bright, this opal white globe measures 40cm across and throws light evenly in all directions rather than pooling it below. It takes a single E27 lamp, and the opal shade keeps the source out of sight so the glow stays soft. The drop can be set short over a worktop or let out for a taller space, and with the right lamp and dimmer the level comes down too. We stock the ball as a pendant in three sizes, and this is the middle of them.

It is rated for outdoor use in sheltered spots, which makes it a good fit for a porch, a covered terrace, a veranda or a garden room. Indoors it works just as happily over a dining table, in a hallway or in a stairwell, where a round shape reads well from every angle. We like them hung in a row at staggered heights along a run of glazing, and it is one we reach for when a shaded pendant would look too fussy. It suits anyone who wants light spread about a space rather than aimed at it.

The finish is opal white through, shade and all, so it reads as one clean shape whether lit or unlit. Wipe it down with a damp cloth once the lamp has gone cold, then dry it off; outdoors it gathers dust and pollen faster than an indoor fitting, so the odd clean keeps the light clear. It carries a one year warranty. The same ball turns up as table lamps for outdoor use as well, so a terrace and a garden path can be worked up from one shape. Lamps are not included.
