Description
A soft opal white sphere hung from a flex, this one gives light all round rather than a single pool underneath, so it reads more like a small moon than a downlighter. The globe is 35cm across, big enough to hold its own over a table or in a stairwell without dominating. It takes one E27 lamp, with a drop that can be set anywhere between quite short and generously long to suit the height you are working with, and it will dim if you pair a dimmable lamp with a compatible dimmer.
Because it is rated for splashes, it belongs as much outside as in: under a porch roof, along a covered walkway, above a garden table sheltered by a canopy, or bracketing a back door. Indoors it does good work in a hallway, over a kitchen island or in a bathroom within the permitted zones. We would put a warm white LED GLS lamp in it and keep the wattage modest, since the opal shade spreads what it is given very evenly. Neither a lamp nor a dimmer comes with it.
The shade is opal white right through, so it looks the same milky white lit or unlit, and the plain round form keeps the fitting quiet in modern schemes where a busier light would jar. Outside it will collect dust and rain marks in time; turn the power off, let the lamp go cold, then wipe the globe over with a damp cloth and skip the solvents and scouring pads. It needs an earthed supply. It carries a one year warranty. The same ball shape carries through the range in bigger pendants and in a set of table lamps, with multi-light ceiling fittings on chrome for anyone wanting a cluster of the globes overhead.

Frequently Asked
How wide is the globe, and how far down can it hang?
The shade is 350mm in diameter. The drop can be set from 400mm at its shortest to 1850mm at its longest.
What lamp should I use?
An E27 LED GLS (A60) lamp, up to a maximum of 15W. A warm white gives the most flattering effect through opal white.
Can I dim it?
Yes, provided you use a dimmable lamp with a matching dimmer. Neither is supplied with the pendant.
Is it suitable for outdoors?
Yes. It is IP44 rated, which covers sheltered outdoor positions such as porches, covered terraces and canopied seating areas.
How do I clean it?
Switch off at the wall and let the lamp cool completely, then wipe the sphere with a soft damp cloth. Avoid solvents, bleach and abrasive pads, which will dull the surface.
Does it need an earth?
Yes, it is a Class 1 fitting and requires an earth connection.
