Description

The Honvelle is a steel wall light with a curved matt black shade that wraps around a gold back plate. The gold has a crinkled, leaf-like texture, so it catches the light unevenly and looks warm rather than flat. It measures 16cm long and 25cm tall, and it stands 11.5cm out from the wall, a slim profile for a hallway or the space beside a bed. It takes an E27 bulb up to 40W, and the bulb is not included, which leaves the choice of a warm or a cooler white to you. The IP rating is IP20, which settles where it goes: indoors, in dry rooms.

We would hang it in a living room, a hallway, a landing or a bedroom, anywhere a soft wash of light across the wall does more than a ceiling light alone. The shade is open at the top and the bottom, so light spills upwards and downwards over the wall while the black curve keeps the bulb out of direct view. Black and gold sits as happily on a dark painted wall as on a pale one, and a pair either side of a bed or a mirror gives a room a neat, balanced look. Because it is IP20, keep it away from bathrooms and outdoor walls.

The body is steel, a rigid metal that holds its shape, so the rolled shade keeps its clean line.
