Description
This is a plant pot in the shape of a fish, made from 100% stoneware and finished in a green reactive glaze. Every scale along its body is raised in relief, the tail fans out in fine ridges, and the face has full lips with a narrow open mouth and a large rounded gill on each side, with a small dark eye set into it. The fish rests on a low, rounded foot banded with small raised flowers, and the planting opening runs along its back. It measures 43.5cm long, 19cm wide and 20cm tall, so it is a long, low pot rather than a deep one, and at 3.49KG it is a solid piece that sits firmly wherever it is placed.
Because it is long rather than tall, it suits a windowsill, a deep shelf, a sideboard or the back of a kitchen worktop, where its length lets a loose, leafy plant spread out along the body. A spreading houseplant, or a few small plants grouped together, suits it better than a single tall specimen, and the fish face gives even a plain plant some character. It works well in a kitchen, a sunroom or a hallway, and it makes a good present for someone who keeps houseplants or loves seaside and coastal decorating.
The body is stoneware, and stoneware is a dense clay fired at a high temperature, which is why the pot feels so hard and solid. A reactive glaze changes as it fires, pooling darker in the hollows and thinning to a paler green across raised edges, so the tone shifts over the scales and fins and no two pieces come out of the kiln alike. Set it side on along a sill so the face and tail both read clearly, and let the leaves fall over the back to soften the long line of the fish.

Frequently Asked
What is the material of this plant pot?
It is made from 100% stoneware and finished in a green reactive glaze that deepens in the hollows of the scales and fins.
How big is it?
It is 43.5cm long, 19cm wide and 20cm tall, a long, low shape that suits a windowsill, a deep shelf or a sideboard.
How heavy is it?
It weighs 3.49KG, so it is a substantial stoneware piece with a real sense of weight when you lift it.
Will every pot look exactly the same?
No. A reactive glaze varies as it fires, so the depth of green and the way it pools across the scales differ slightly from one pot to the next.
What kind of plant suits it?
Its long, low shape suits a leafy, spreading houseplant or a few small plants grouped together, rather than a single tall plant.
What colour is it?
It is green, with a glossy reactive glaze that runs darker in the recesses and paler over the raised scales and the edges of the fins.
