Description
Our Herle play tent is a small tipi for a child's room, worked by hand in an open, lacy lattice of 78% cotton and 22% polyester in a soft natural colour. Bands of scalloped pattern run around it from the peak to the hem, which finishes in a scalloped edge, and four poles meet at the top, tied together with a cord. A plain fabric floor sits within the frame, with a pocket at each corner holding the foot of a pole. It is 110cm wide, 100cm long and 100cm tall, enough room for a child to sit inside with a blanket and a favourite book.
It suits a child's bedroom or a playroom, where it makes a den for quiet play, reading and make-believe, or simply a place to keep soft toys together. Because the walls are an open lattice rather than solid canvas, light comes through, so the space inside feels airy rather than closed in. The footprint, 110cm by 100cm, fits against a wall or into the corner of a bedroom without taking over the floor, and at 1.3KG it is light enough to lift and move to another spot as the room changes. It also looks good standing empty, a gentle peaked shape against a plain wall.
Plain fabric strips run down the edges where the poles sit, and the openwork is laced along them. Because it is made by hand in a soft cotton blend, care is gentle: wash it by hand, dry it flat so the openwork keeps its shape, and iron it on a medium setting when it needs smartening. The maker's assembly instructions come as a PDF download. For a cosy finish, lay a folded quilt or a couple of floor cushions inside and hang a soft toy from the top where the poles cross; the styling props shown are not included.

Frequently Asked
What is the play tent made of?
It is 78% cotton and 22% polyester, made by hand into an open lattice with scalloped bands and a scalloped hem, in a natural colour.
How big is the play tent?
It is 110cm wide, 100cm long and 100cm tall, so it needs a clear patch of floor of that width and length. It weighs 1.3KG.
How do I clean it?
Wash it by hand and dry it flat so the openwork keeps its shape. It can be ironed on a medium setting if the fabric needs smoothing.
What age is it for?
The maker recommends it from 2 years. It is sized as a den for a child to sit inside with a blanket and a few books.
Does it need putting together?
Yes. The maker supplies assembly instructions, which come as a PDF download, so you can see how the poles and the tent go together.
Does the tent have a floor?
Yes, it has a plain fabric floor with a pocket at each corner holding the foot of a pole, so cushions or a quilt can go straight inside.
