Hereford-2 1 Light Outdoor Ceiling Porch Lantern - Black

The Hereford-2 is a 1 light outdoor ceiling porch lantern built from die-cast aluminium with a black powder-coated finish and clear glass panels on all four sides. The lantern mounts flush to a porch or patio ceiling via a circular backplate and canopy, housing a single E27 bulb socket (bulb sold separately). The four vertical metal bars frame the clear glass, allowing 360-degree light distribution once a bulb is fitted.

Designed for installation in sheltered outdoor areas such as covered porches, gazebos, carports and recessed entranceways, the Hereford-2 carries an IP43 rating. This provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and water spray at angles up to 60 degrees, making it suitable for locations with overhead cover but not for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain. The clear glass panels cast bright, unfiltered light across porch floors and steps, providing functional illumination for keyholes, steps and door thresholds after dark.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists rust and corrosion in damp coastal and urban air better than pressed steel alternatives. The black finish is applied as a powder coat baked onto the metal, giving a low-sheen textured surface that hides minor surface marks and pairs well with both traditional red brick and rendered modern facades. The lantern measures approximately 180mm in height and 140mm in diameter, giving compact proportions that suit standard UK porch ceiling heights of 2.2-2.4m without the fitting appearing oversized or overbearing.

What bulb does it take?

The Hereford-2 takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installers pair this with a 6-10W warm-white LED bulb between 2700K-3000K for functional porch lighting, or a filament-style LED for a more decorative appearance.

Can it be used in fully exposed outdoor locations?

No. The IP43 rating means the lantern is protected against water spray at angles up to 60 degrees, but not against driving rain or direct water jets. It must be installed under a porch roof, gazebo, carport canopy or other overhead shelter. For fully exposed locations, an IP65 or IP66 rated fitting is required.

How is it mounted?

The lantern mounts to a porch or patio ceiling via a circular backplate and canopy.
