Hereford 1 Light Outdoor Wall Down Lantern - Black

The Hereford is a 1 light outdoor wall lantern in matt black die-cast aluminium, designed to mount downward on external walls with a curved bracket and decorative backplate. The cylindrical lantern body holds a single E27 bulb (sold separately) behind seeded glass panels that show visible bubble texture when lit, diffusing the light while retaining a traditional coach-light character.

Designed for sheltered outdoor locations such as covered porches, side entrances, patio walls beneath eaves and garage doorways, the Hereford provides downward-directed light that illuminates doorsteps, pathways and immediate ground areas without spilling excessive glare horizontally. The IP43 rating protects against solid objects larger than 1mm and light water spray, making it suitable for positions where the fitting is not directly exposed to driving rain. The matt black finish resists fading under UV exposure and pairs with traditional, cottage and period-style exteriors.

The die-cast aluminium construction gives the fitting a solid 1.2kg weight and resistance to corrosion in coastal or damp environments. The seeded glass panels are held within a black metal frame that divides the lantern into upper and lower glazed sections beneath a peaked metal cap. The curved bracket extends approximately 200mm from the wall, providing clearance above door frames and allowing the lantern to cast light away from the wall surface itself. The decorative scrolled backplate conceals the mounting hardware and adds a period detail to match traditional UK cottage and Georgian exterior styles.

Can this be used in fully exposed locations?

The IP43 rating protects against light water spray but not heavy rain or direct hosing. The Hereford is best suited to sheltered outdoor positions such as covered porches, beneath eaves or canopies, and side entrances where the fitting is not directly exposed to driving rain.

What bulb does it take?

The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to suit the traditional lantern style.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, if paired with a dimmable E27 bulb and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. The fitting itself has no electronic components that would prevent dimming.

How is it mounted?

The decorative backplate fixes to the wall with screws (supplied) and the bracket assembly attaches to the backplate. The fitting requires connection to mains supply by a qualified electrician and must be earthed (Class I).
