Hereford 1 Light Outdoor Chain Pendant - Black

The Hereford is a 150mm diameter outdoor chain pendant cast from die-cast aluminium in a matt black finish, with a lantern-style housing divided by vertical mullions and clear glass panels on four sides. The pendant hangs from a black chain with a circular loop detail at the canopy, allowing the chain to be adjusted between 365mm and 835mm total drop on installation. A single E27 bulb inside (sold separately, max 60W) lights all four glass panels.

Designed for covered outdoor positions where some weather protection exists, the Hereford carries an IP43 rating, protecting against solid objects larger than 1mm and water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical. This makes it suitable for porch ceilings, covered doorways, pergolas with overhead roofing, and verandas where the fitting is sheltered from direct rainfall. The 150mm width suits entrance doors and smaller covered seating areas without overwhelming the proportions of a typical domestic porch.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than pressed steel alternatives, and the matt black powder-coat finish conceals minor surface marks that would show on gloss or metallic finishes. The clear glass panels allow full light output from the bulb while the vertical frame divides cast defined shadow lines on adjacent walls when lit at night. The Hereford is part of Elstead Lighting's traditional outdoor collection and carries a 5-year warranty.

Can this be used fully outdoors or does it need a covered position?

The IP43 rating protects against water spray at angles up to 60° from vertical, but not direct rainfall or horizontal water jets. The Hereford needs a covered position such as a porch ceiling, pergola with roofing, or veranda where it's sheltered from rain falling directly onto the fitting.

What bulb does it take?

The pendant takes a single E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a soft porch light that doesn't overpower the space.

How is the drop adjusted?

The chain length is set during installation by removing or adding chain links before fixing the canopy to the ceiling. Once installed the drop is fixed until the fitting is taken down and re-hung.

Is the glass replaceable if broken?

The clear glass panels are held within the aluminium frame. Contact Elstead Lighting or Niori directly for replacement glass panels if one becomes damaged — the panels are not sold as separate retail items but can be sourced as service parts.
