Description
This is a compact LED spotlamp on a GU10 fitting, drawing 5W and giving 450 lumens of warm white light at 3000K. The beam is a focused one, so light lands where it is aimed rather than spilling out across a whole room. The face is clear, with a silver body behind it. It does not dim, so it belongs on a plain switched circuit rather than a trailing edge control.
We reach for GU10 lamps like this one in kitchen downlights, above worktops and islands, and in the recessed fittings that march along a hallway ceiling. The tighter beam also suits track heads and picture lights, where the job is to pick out a shelf, a painting or a run of splashback instead of washing a wall evenly. The warm tone keeps timber, brick and painted plaster looking friendly rather than clinical, which makes it as useful in a sitting room or bedroom as it is in a working space. It is the lamp we hand over most often when someone is replacing tired halogen spots.
The body is the familiar reflector shape, silver finished, with the clear front giving a crisp little source when you glance up at it. Dust settles on the face over time and softens the light, so switch off at the wall, give it a few minutes to cool, then hold the lamp by its body and wipe the glass with a dry cloth. Keep it to dry rooms indoors; a bathroom or a covered porch needs a fitting rated for the damp. It carries a three year warranty. If you are relamping a run of spots, we would change the whole set in one go rather than one at a time, since a fresh lamp beside older ones tends to show up the difference in tone.

Frequently Asked
What size is this bulb?
It measures 50mm across the face and 55mm tall, which is the standard GU10 spotlamp size used in most recessed downlights and track heads.
Can I use it with a dimmer?
No. This one is non-dimmable and should be wired to an ordinary switch. Running a non-dimmable lamp on a dimmer circuit can cause flicker, buzz and early failure.
How wide is the beam?
It has a 36 degree beam, which is a mid-narrow spot. It is good for accenting and for lighting worktops, but you will want several of them spaced out if you are lighting a whole room.
How long should it last?
It has an average rated life of 25,000 hours, so in a hallway or kitchen used a few hours a day it should run for years before it needs changing.
Is 3000K the same as the old halogen colour?
It is very close. At 3000K the light is warm white, a touch cleaner than a filament lamp but far from the blue-white of a cool LED, so it swaps in for halogen spots without the room feeling changed.
Does it work in a fully enclosed fitting?
We would avoid sealed enclosures. LED lamps need a little air around them to shed heat, so an open downlight or track head suits it best.
