Description
This GX53 LED spotlight bulb gives a directional, downward wash of light from a low, puck-shaped body. It draws just 9W yet puts out 750 lumens at a crisp 4000K cool white, replacing a 58W old bulb of the same fitting. The GX53 cap is a twist-and-lock base that runs straight from the mains at 220 to 240V AC, so no separate transformer or driver is needed here, unlike a low-voltage MR16 or GU5.3 lamp. A wide 110 degree beam spreads the output rather than concentrating it, which is what sets this apart from a narrow accent lamp.
The shallow Ø75 by 25mm shape suits the flat GX53 cabinet downlights, shelf and display fittings, and slimline ceiling units where a deeper lamp would not sit flush. The 110 degree spread means it lights a useful area beneath the fitting rather than a tight spot, so it works well over kitchen worktops, in alcoves, and across under-cabinet runs where even coverage matters more than a sharp pool. Because this is a bulb rather than a fitting, where it can go is set by the fitting it sits in. The IP20 lamp is for dry indoor positions only, so keep it clear of bathrooms, porches and any damp or outdoor location. As a guide, several of these across a room give bright, shadow-light task and feature lighting.
The lamp uses an ESG light source rated at Ra 80 colour rendering and an efficiency of 83 lm/W, with a quoted lifespan of 20,000 hours. It is non-dimmable, so pair it with a standard on/off switch rather than a dimmer circuit. The white body keeps it discreet inside recessed and surface GX53 fittings, and at 70g it is light enough for shallow units. We stock the GX53 range in other outputs and tones if you need to match an existing fitting.

Frequently Asked
What fitting does this bulb need?
It has a GX53 cap, the flat twist-and-lock base used in shallow cabinet, shelf and slimline ceiling fittings. You push it in and give it a quarter turn to lock. It runs on mains voltage, so no transformer is required.
What old bulb wattage does it replace?
It draws 9W of actual power but gives the light of a 58W old bulb of the same type, producing 750 lumens. The LED itself only ever uses 9W, so it is a clear running-cost saving over the bulb it replaces.
Is it warm or cool light?
It is a 4000K cool white, a clean, neutral-bright tone that suits kitchens, worktops and task areas. It is brighter and crisper than a warm white and renders colours at Ra 80.
Is this bulb dimmable?
No, this is a non-dimmable bulb and should be used on a standard on/off switch. Fitting it to a dimmer circuit can cause flicker or buzzing, so a plain switch is best. It is rated for 20,000 hours of use.
