Description
This GU5.3 LED spotlight bulb gives a directional 480 lumen output from a low 7 W draw, replacing an old 35 W halogen MR16 while using far less energy. It carries the two-pin GU5.3 cap, the standard MR16 reflector format known in the US as a bi-pin MR16 bulb, and being a low-voltage lamp it runs on 12 V AC or 12 V DC rather than straight off the mains. The 120 degree beam spreads a wide, even pool of light rather than a tight pencil spot, and the 5300K daylight tone reads crisp and white. With a colour rendering of Ra 80, colours stay true and natural under it.
The wide 120 degree spread makes it well suited to recessed downlight fittings, display and accent setups, and general task areas where a broad, bright wash is wanted rather than a narrow highlight. It slots into existing GU5.3 reflector fittings and is a direct swap for older 35 W halogen spots, so a row of them can light a kitchen, hallway or living space without changing the housings. Because the beam is broad rather than focused, think of it as filling a zone with light rather than throwing a long, concentrated beam at one object. Being an IP20 lamp it is for dry indoor positions only, with the fitting itself determining where it can safely go.
The bulb measures Ø50 by 53 mm and weighs 54 g, the familiar compact MR16 size that fits standard recessed and track reflector holders. As a low-voltage GU5.3 lamp it needs a 12 V transformer or driver to run, so check the existing supply matches before fitting. The integrated LED is rated for around 25,000 hours and the bulb is non-dimmable, so it should be paired with a standard, non-dimming switched circuit. The reflector body is finished in white and the daylight output holds a steady 5300K across its life.

Frequently Asked
Which fitting does this bulb need?
It has a GU5.3 two-pin cap in the MR16 reflector format, the small twist-and-push bi-pin used in recessed and track spotlight holders. It is low voltage, so it runs on a 12 V supply rather than directly off the mains.
Does it need a transformer?
Yes. As a 12 V GU5.3 MR16 lamp it requires a transformer or LED driver to step the mains down to 12 V AC or 12 V DC. If you are replacing existing halogen MR16 spots the transformer is usually already in place, but check it is compatible with LED loads.
What old bulb wattage does it replace?
It draws just 7 W yet gives 480 lumens, enough to replace a 35 W halogen MR16 spot. The 35 W figure is the equivalent it stands in for; the LED itself only ever uses 7 W, which is the real saving on your bill.
Is it dimmable, and what colour is the light?
This bulb is non-dimmable, so pair it with a standard switched circuit rather than a dimmer. The light is a crisp 5300K daylight tone with Ra 80 colour rendering, giving a clean white output that keeps colours looking natural.
