Description
This resin grim reaper figurine shows Death as a hooded, half-length figure rising from the deep folds of a black robe, with a long scythe held high and a black raven perched on its blade. The hood falls deep over an empty, shadowed face, and two skeletal hands in a pale bone colour reach out from the sleeves: one rests forward at the base while the other grips a brown staff with a wood-grain look. The blade itself is finished in a worn silver, with a scrolling pattern and a small flower rosette where it meets the staff. It stands 24.5cm tall, 19cm wide and 12cm deep.
At 24.5cm tall it sits comfortably on a bookshelf, a mantelpiece, a desk or a sideboard, and as a freestanding figurine it needs no fixings and no wall space. The robe is finished all the way round, with its folds carried across the back, so it looks just as good on an open shelf or a side table seen from every angle. We think it brings a touch of gothic drama to a study, a reading corner or a hallway, and it sits happily among old books, dark glassware and other curiosities. The raven and the raised scythe give it a strong outline, so it holds its own even on a busy shelf.
The figurine is made from resin, which takes fine detail well, from the knuckles of the bony fingers to the feathers of the raven and the grain painted along the staff. The scythe blade reaches out past the hood, so give it a little room either side and keep it where it will not be knocked. To care for it, dust it with a soft dry cloth now and then, or wipe it gently with a barely damp cloth and let it dry. Wrapped up, it makes a gift with real character.
