Description

The Gosmelle is a slim, round LED downlight: a black plastic body framing a white plastic diffuser, 21.1cm in diameter and only 2.5cm high. The LED is integrated, so there is no bulb to buy or change, and it draws 11.5W to give 1,550lm of light. It is rated IP20, and that settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms, well away from water and never outdoors.

Because it sits so close to the ceiling, it suits hallways, landings, kitchens, bedrooms and living rooms, and it makes good sense where ceilings are low and a pendant would get in the way. The black rim draws a crisp outline against a pale ceiling, which works well in a modern or monochrome scheme. The bigger gain is the light itself: you can set it to 2700K for a warm, relaxed glow, 4000K for a neutral white that suits a kitchen or a study, or 6500K for a cool, bright daylight tone, so one fitting can match the way each room is used.

The body and diffuser are both plastic, and the downlight weighs 0.498KG packed, so it is easy to handle while it is being fitted. It is not dimmable and has no switch of its own: it runs from your wall switch on 220-240V mains, and it carries an energy class of E. As a wired mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions are available as a download. One practical point: because every downlight offers all three colour temperatures, you can use the same model throughout a home and still give each room its own tone.
