Description

The Gosmelle is a round recessed LED downlight with a white steel body and a white plastic diffuser framed by a slim rim. It measures 11.7cm across and needs only 2.6cm of depth behind the ceiling, which makes it a good answer where space is tight. The cut-out is 10.5cm, and the rim is wide enough to cover the edge of the hole neatly. The LED is integrated, so there is no separate bulb to buy, and it draws 5.5W to give 650 lumens of warm light at 3000K. It is rated IP20, which settles where it belongs: indoors, in dry rooms only.

We think it works best wherever you want light from the ceiling without a hanging fitting: living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, landings and studies. Set in a line along a corridor or close to a picture wall, a few of them give an even wash of warm light that flatters artwork and painted walls. The 3000K tone keeps evenings relaxed and homely rather than stark, and the white finish blends into a white ceiling. It is not dimmable, so choose it for rooms where you want a steady, full light every time the switch is pressed.

The steel body gives the downlight a sturdy frame, and the plastic diffuser softens the LED into an even glow rather than harsh points of light. There is no switch on the light itself; it is controlled from the wall switch and runs on 220-240V mains at 50/60Hz, with an energy class of F. The packed weight is 0.22KG, so it is easy to handle overhead. As a wired mains light, it should be installed by a qualified electrician, and the installation instructions come as a PDF download.
