Description
Our Gionata is a solar spike light in black plastic, made to stand in a flower bed, a border or a gravel path and light it without a cable. Its square head holds an integrated LED behind a clear ridged reflector. An open bracket lets you tilt the head so the beam falls where you want it, on a shrub, a pot or a stretch of path. The solar panel sits at the back of the head. It measures 7.5cm long and 11cm wide, and the LED draws 0.1W, a gentle accent light rather than a floodlight. It is rated IP44, which means it is protected from splashing water, so it can live outdoors in the garden through showers and rain.
With no wiring to plan, it suits anyone who wants a little light in the garden without digging a trench or running a cable across the lawn. Set it among the planting to pick out a favourite rose, a small conifer or a rock in a gravel bed, or space several along a border to mark the way after dark. The panel charges from daylight, and as general guidance it does best in an open, sunny spot away from the shade of trees and fences, so choose its place with the sky in mind.
The body is plastic and weighs 0.143KG packed, so it is easy to move as the garden changes through the year. The LED is integrated and not replaceable, which means there is no bulb to buy or change. An on/off switch lets you rest it whenever you like, and the run time is 6 to 8 hours. It takes an AA NiMH battery of 1000mAh, and NiMH cells are rechargeable. The installation instructions come as a download. Before you settle on a spot, check that it catches direct daylight for much of the day.
