Description
The G4 Capsule LED Bulb is a small bi-pin lamp built for compact low-voltage fittings, drawing just 1.2W while giving out 165 lumens of warm white 3000K light. The G4 cap is the two-pin push-fit base familiar from desk lamps, display cabinets and under-cabinet spots, and US buyers will know this format as a bi-pin capsule. A wide 120 degree beam spreads the light evenly rather than throwing a tight spot, and at Ra 80 the colour rendering keeps everyday tones looking natural.
Because the output is modest, this bulb suits accent and detail roles rather than lighting a whole room. It works well in cabinet downlights, picture and display fittings, cooker hoods, small pendants and decorative clusters where several capsules combine to build up the overall level. The warm 3000K tone reads as a soft, relaxing light, which makes it a good match for living spaces, kitchens and hallways indoors. As an IP20 bulb it is for dry indoor positions only, so keep it out of bathrooms, porches and any damp or exposed location.
The lamp runs on 12V, accepting either 12V AC at 50Hz or 12V DC, so it needs a matching low-voltage transformer or driver rather than connecting straight to the mains. It measures Ø20 by 31mm and weighs only 2g, slipping into the slim recesses these fittings allow. Rated for 20,000 hours at an efficiency of 138 lm/W, it cuts running cost against an old halogen capsule. The bulb is non-dimmable and finished with a transparent body. Other wattages in this G4 range cover different brightness needs from the same compact base.

Frequently Asked
Which fitting does this bulb need?
It has a G4 bi-pin cap, the small two-pin push-fit base used in low-voltage cabinet, display and accent fittings. The two pins simply press into the holder. Check your fixture is marked G4 before ordering, as the similar GU5.3 and G9 caps are not interchangeable.
Does it need a transformer?
Yes. This is a 12V bulb that accepts either 12V AC at 50Hz or 12V DC, so it must run from a low-voltage transformer or LED driver rather than direct mains. Many existing halogen G4 systems already include a suitable transformer, though an older one may need to be LED-compatible.
Is this bulb dimmable?
No, this G4 capsule is non-dimmable, so it should be used on a standard non-dimmed circuit. Fitting it on a dimmer switch can cause flicker or buzzing and may shorten its life. If you need dimming, choose a lamp specified as dimmable instead.
How long does it last and how much power does it use?
It is rated for 20,000 hours of use and draws just 1.2W to produce 165 lumens, an efficiency of 138 lm/W. That makes it far more frugal than an old halogen capsule of similar brightness, so it lasts longer and costs less to run.
