Description

This is a long, slim stoneware platter, 37.5cm long, 12cm wide and 4cm tall, finished in a grey reactive glaze. Around the inner wall, a ring of ribs fans out from the centre like petals, while the floor of the dish carries a speckled, pitted texture. The rim is edged in a darker tone that outlines the oval. It holds 950ml, so it is a shallow serving dish rather than a flat plate: there is enough depth for olives in oil, a dressed salad or the juices from roasted vegetables to stay where they belong.

Its long, slim shape is made for the middle of a table, where a round platter would crowd the place settings. Lay a sliced baguette along it, line up crackers and cheese, or fill it with olives, radishes and pickles for something to pick at before dinner.
