Description

The FireNova is an 85mm fire-rated tilt downlight with an open-back pressed steel body finished in matt black. The fitting accepts a standard GU10 LED bulb (sold separately, max 7W) and tilts up to 20° from centre, allowing light to be angled towards walls, artwork or specific zones within a room rather than casting straight down.

Designed for residential and commercial ceiling installations requiring fire-rated performance, the FireNova carries a 30/60/90-minute fire rating on solid wood joists and 30 minutes on metal web and I-joists. The open-back design allows heat to dissipate into the ceiling void rather than trapping it around the fitting, reducing thermal stress on the lamp and prolonging bulb life. The 67mm recessed depth requires a minimum 120mm ceiling void and a 75mm cut-out diameter.

The fitting uses push-fit loop-in/loop-out terminals for faster installation across multiple downlight runs, eliminating the need for individual wiring to each fitting. When paired with an insulation bridge accessory (sold separately), the FireNova becomes IC-rated, meaning it can be safely covered by loft insulation without creating a fire risk. The matt black finish provides a low-sheen surface that recedes visually against dark ceilings and pairs cleanly with industrial, modern and monochrome interiors.

What ceiling void depth is required?

The FireNova requires a minimum 120mm void above the ceiling plasterboard to accommodate the 67mm recessed depth of the fitting plus clearance for heat dissipation. The cut-out diameter is 75mm.

Does it come with a GU10 bulb?

No. GU10 bulbs are sold separately. The fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED up to 7W. Most users pair this with a 5-6W warm white LED at 2700K-3000K for general ambient lighting.

Is it dimmable?

Dimming capability depends on the GU10 bulb fitted. If you use a dimmable GU10 LED and pair it with a compatible LED dimmer, the FireNova will dim. Non-dimmable GU10 bulbs will not dim regardless of the dimmer used.

Can it be covered by loft insulation?

Only when paired with an insulation bridge accessory (sold separately). The open-back design allows heat into the ceiling void, which can ignite insulation if the fitting is directly covered. The insulation bridge creates a safe air gap and makes the fitting IC-rated.
