Eveready Gold AAA Batteries (LR03) - 12 Pack

This is a card of twelve AAA alkaline cells from the Eveready Gold line. AAA is the slimmer of the two everyday household sizes, narrower and shorter than an AA, and it is the cell most small handheld electronics are built around. Alkaline chemistry gives a nominal 1.5V per cell and holds its output better under light, intermittent use than an older zinc carbon cell. The pack states these last up to four times longer, a figure it bases on the IEC minimum average duration for carbon zinc batteries rather than on other alkaline cells.

AAA cells are what most television and set top box remotes take, along with computer mice, wireless keyboards, wall clocks, kitchen scales, digital thermometers, small torches and a great many children's toys. Twelve on one card is a drawer quantity rather than a single device quantity: enough for the remotes in a living room, the clock in the hall and a few spares for when something goes flat on a Sunday. If you are unsure which size a device takes, check the moulded marking inside the battery compartment, or hold the old cell against an AA, which is noticeably fatter.

The twelve cells arrive held on one retail card, marked to open at one end so you can take a cell at a time and leave the rest in place. Alkaline cells are single use and must never go into a charger. Mixing part used cells with fresh ones in the same device shortens the life of the fresh pair, so change a whole set together where something takes more than one. Can these be recharged?

No. Alkaline cells are single use and must never be put into a charger. If you want cells you can recharge, buy rechargeable ones instead.

Will they work in a device that normally runs on rechargeables?

Usually yes. An alkaline AAA is 1.5V nominal against 1.2V for a typical rechargeable cell, so most devices run happily and often a little longer on alkaline.

Is a shelf life or expiry figure printed on the pack?

The manufacturer does not state a shelf life for this pack, so we do not quote one. Store the cells somewhere cool and dry until you need them.

How many cells do I receive at the minimum order?

The minimum is ten cards, bought in multiples of ten, and each card holds twelve cells, so ten cards gives you 120 AAA cells.

Can I mix these with cells already in a device?

It is better not to. A part used cell drags down a fresh one sharing the same circuit, so replace every cell in a device at the same time.
