Description
The Eveready AA Super Zinc Heavy Duty is a carbon zinc battery delivering 1.5V per cell, supplied in a 4-pack blister. Each cell measures 15mm diameter by 50mm height and uses traditional carbon zinc chemistry optimised for low-drain applications where continuous low current draw is needed rather than high-power bursts.
Designed for wall clocks, remote controls, LED torches on low settings, portable radios and similar devices that draw under 100mA, the Super Zinc range provides economical power where alkaline capacity would go unused. The batteries fit standard AA compartments in household electronics, children's toys running on intermittent use, and backup power for digital clocks and timers.
Carbon zinc batteries deliver their rated capacity most effectively when allowed rest periods between discharge cycles, making them well-suited to devices that switch on and off rather than run continuously. The 4-pack format suits keeping spares in a kitchen drawer for low-frequency replacements across multiple low-drain devices. Each cell weighs approximately 17g, lighter than equivalent alkaline AA batteries.
Eveready produces the Super Zinc range across AA, AAA, C, D, 9V and 6V lantern formats, all using the same carbon zinc chemistry. The range carries a 3-year shelf life when stored at room temperature, allowing bulk purchase for infrequent use without degradation.

Frequently Asked
What devices are these batteries best suited for?
Carbon zinc AA batteries work best in low-drain devices like wall clocks, TV remotes used occasionally, LED torches on low settings, portable radios and similar electronics drawing under 100mA. They are not recommended for high-drain devices like digital cameras, motorised toys or gaming controllers.
How do carbon zinc batteries differ from alkaline?
Carbon zinc batteries deliver lower total capacity than alkaline and perform best when allowed rest periods between use. They cost less than alkaline and suit devices where the extra capacity of alkaline would never be fully used, making them economical for low-frequency, low-drain applications.
What is the shelf life?
Eveready Super Zinc batteries carry a 3-year shelf life when stored at room temperature in the original packaging. Check the use-by date printed on the blister pack before installing.
Are they rechargeable?
No. Carbon zinc batteries are single-use and must not be recharged. Attempting to recharge a non-rechargeable battery can cause leakage or rupture.
