The Eveready 9V Super Zinc Heavy Duty Battery is a single-cell zinc-carbon power source designed for low-drain devices. The 9V PP3 format delivers 9-volt output through two terminals on a snap connector at the top of the battery, fitting standard 9V compartments in smoke alarms, wall clocks, radios, remote controls and multimeters.

Zinc-carbon batteries offer a lower energy density than alkaline equivalents but at a significantly lower cost per cell, making them practical for devices that draw minimal current over long periods or are used intermittently. The Eveready Super Zinc is best suited to smoke detectors that chirp monthly for testing, backup power in wall clocks, transistor radios used occasionally, and remote controls for gates or garage doors that see light use.

The zinc-carbon construction provides resistance to leakage during storage and use, reducing the risk of damage to device terminals compared to older carbon-zinc formulations. The battery shelf life allows cells to be stored in a household battery drawer or emergency kit for several years before use. At 40g per cell and 19mm wide by 48mm high (excluding terminals), the 9V format is compact enough to fit in device compartments where space is limited.
